What is COPPA?
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a U.S. federal law that applies to the online collection of personal information from children under the age of 13. It requires operators of websites and online services directed at children to:
- โProvide clear notice of their information collection practices
- โObtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children under 13
- โGive parents access to and control over their children's information
- โMaintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of children's data
- โNot condition a child's participation on providing more information than necessary
Our COPPA Compliance Practices
Parental Consent First
All child accounts are created by parents. We require a parent to register first, then create child profiles under their account. No child can create their own account.
Minimal Data Collection
We collect only the minimum information needed: child's first name, age, username, and PIN (hashed). No email, phone number, or address is collected from children.
No Advertising to Children
We never show advertisements to children. The child-facing platform is completely ad-free. We do not allow third-party advertising on child accounts.
Parental Access & Control
Parents have full visibility into their child's activity through the parent dashboard. Parents can view, edit, or delete any of their child's data at any time.
Right to Deletion
Parents may request deletion of their child's data at any time. Account deletion removes all personally identifiable information within 30 days.
No Data Sharing
We never sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. Data is used solely to provide the educational service.
Secure Storage
All child data is encrypted using industry-standard encryption. PINs are hashed with Argon2id and never stored in plain text.
Clear Notice
We provide clear notice to parents about what information we collect from children, how we use it, and their rights regarding that information.
